ICT in the rural

Communication and info tech has taken the centre stage in the universe. ICT has remouIded the whole world into a small village. Day after days we, see new innovations which was brought about by research works based on empirical data collections and experimentation. Everybody want to know what, why, where and how of everything around them (go to yahoo answer and verify this)and ICT is equally up to the task. People of different cultural background in millions of mile apart could come together as team - via the internet - to embark on a worthwile project that can solve some of the aspirations of humankind.
If not for ICT the world Economic situation would have gone awry(economic melt away),if not for technology we would have recorded much death in these days of HIV and other killer diseases, technology has blown a new wave into the world politics, we should have been talking about the third world war by now but thanks to space satellite that monitors everywhere.
Now come to think about you you working in a village where there is no internet,Vsat,3G, all you see is trees, wild animals in their habitat, nature itself as I am working. How do you cope? When I was transffered into Ago - Are(one of the rural areas in Oyo State of Nigeria) I thought all; internet business, online research work, surfing, communicating, chatting has come to the end and this continue till I got informed that I can as well use that my 3G phone(P990i) to do all these and can even be use as modem with my computer. Thanks to Ricardo and Pam of http://www.dadamac.net thought. It was then I got relieved and created a blog and continue with all my online research works.
Are you coming to Africa and you think much cannot be achieved kindly change you perspective, stop being parochial in your think. That is what ICT is all about. Come around with your phone and much can as well be achieved. We are living in the world of mobility. Come to Africa, my village and view things yourself we are as well using ICT. I am a representative of Dadamac in my village

Working in the rurals has brought me more closer to nature

Working and living in the rurals for the past 5years in no doubt has brought me more closer to nature itself. Unlike when I was in the urban area. Now I eat fresh fruits like guava, orange, pineapple, water melon and what a view. I can eat whatever came to my mind since I leave where foods are manufactured; farm. I am free from artificial products, from junks and cholesterol that could cause cancer. I have free and unrestricted access to animals, birds, insects in their real habitats. All these I had no privilege of seeing when in the city and now I can say all things bright and beautiful for God make them all. I now appreciate nature. Staying in the village is adventorous I must confess, the people are not hostile they are instead accomodating, friendly, wanting to learn from their teacher. Staying with these villagers is lovely I must confess.

Teachers and computer

I have been familiar with computer and its use ever since I was in the secondary school but I was amazed when I was posted to work in one of the rurals of Oyo State and I noticed many people around - even elites- have not seen or touch computer in their lives and so the words like internet, ICT, 3G and other languages of technology is strange in their ears. The government is now making it compulsory for everyone especially teachers to be computer literate. I know in the next few years we will be there.

More mobile network

I was posted into Ago-Are in 2005 as a teacher by the government. There were no GSM,CDMA,landlines, internet or any means of communication whatsoever and we have to pay through our nose to make a call using Thuraya. Things have changed drastically over the years we now have 3 mobile company in our village ;GLO,MTN and ZAIN. Communication has been available ever since and we even use their GPRS data bundle to browse right from the village. Though MultilinksTelcoms is about to start operation as well and I think their services is cheaper and affordable compare to GSM because they are on CDMA. My desire is to teach every body around how to use their mobile to connect to the outside world. I would be happy to see that happen in no time.
