I teach in one of the rural of Nigeria started blogging with my phone P990i in 2008 but now I blog from my Dell laptop right inside the village isnt that lovely?folafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.comBlogger33125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-13797839498832682632015-10-05T01:54:00.000-07:002016-04-29T05:19:55.882-07:00PRACTICAL COMPUTER TRAINING NOW IN OFIKI PRIMARY SCHOOL, ATISBO
It is interesting working
in the village. few years ago Pamela invited me to Kafanchan where we
were taught blogging by Glenn and Shooting of Photographs by Kelechi
little did i know that i was been prepared for my future passion. I
have interest in art and graphics last year i went for a camera Canon
D60 (broke my pocket for the camera but it is a gadget worth buying).
I ventured into photography and some of my works could be seen on
folabisunday
late last year I motivated a school to get a PC for the pupils and
they they did purchased one for sure, Computer is getting more rooted
in the Nigerian education system, since some of the examinations are
being done using computer and it will be of good help if we catch them
young (teaching computer right from primary school)I have taken them
Computer class few months ago before I went for my sandwich degree
programme at Lead City University Ibadan The good news is I will be
having my teaching practice for six weeks and I hope to intensify in
my teaching the pupils computer and internet usage. see some of the
shot i took with the pupils and one of their teachers last time i had
their class before i traveled for my study. I wish to
establish a well standard computer and ICT center in the village where
i could be of help teaching the students in the village how to use the
internet and more so now I am into graphics and photography as i go for
wedding shot( I still need some photography gears though) I will like
to teach the pupils and anyone in the locality photography, computer
usage and the use of the internet especially now when we only need a
router to share the Glo 3G network available in the town. Someday I
wish to start teaching computer in local language on the only radio
station in the area but the logistic and the wherewithal to go about
it is lacking I hope someday my voice would be heard on Radio in local
language teaching Computer. Many people are now using computer in the
town and I am happy to tell you Ago Are and other towns in ATISBO ( an
acronym of towns that made up the local government Ago Are//Agunrege,
Irawo, Tede, Irawo, Baasi, Sabe,Ofiki//Owo ) has changed drastically
in terms of technology skills. now you see people repairing computer
around the town and you see mini computer centers all around, I wish
to someday provide ict training skills for the computer users in the
local governemt someday.
While reading through these unsold magazines i found out that a life without information is shapeless and helpless.

I discovered there avalanche of opportunities on internet. I got most of my problems solved reading those old unsold newspapers and that was 2003 and it continued till 2003 when i got my first email opened on yahoo mail.

I never gave (up) i spent countless hours surfing the internet in a cafe searching for knowledge and skills that can be helpful for my life and career, I had to pay through my nose to get access into a cafe then in 2003 I was helping many people around solving their internet problems by helping them opening an email account in the cafe and they were happy,

I solved most assignment while on campus using Google search and most of my colleague looked up to me anytime there is a challenge on computer and getting information online, I helped many people attached their documents online and I was happy spending my money doing these selfless services without being paid a dime.

I got my employment under the Oyo state Universal Basic Education Board {SUBEB} in 2005 and I was posted to ATISBO {is an acronym of all the towns and villages that made up the local government}.

Then i had grew versed on internet and i have mastered the usage of computers but my quest for knowledge keep building.

I was posted to a place where there was no telecommunication company and getting on the internet was almost impossible though we later after a year had a network or thereabout but I later got to know that there is a place called Information Centre in Ago Are and I was moved i searched for the place and i went there to see how I could get myself connected to the internet in 2007.

It was at the information centre I met Pastor David who manage the place with some other locals, my constant visit to the place to surf the internet brought me closer to PD as he is fondly called.

My views about internet and information changed when teachers in the local government were invited to the centre to be addressed by an English woman. I attended the meeting and the woman Pamela McLean spoke to us about helping each other, collaborating to solve community problems and learning from each others.

We exchange emails and she went back to UK and my quest for ICT grew more deeper after I heard her speak to us I was not satisfied with the poor Internet access and erratic power supply then I went to obtain a loan and use it to purchase a Sony Ericsson phone P990i in 2007 and with it i browse the internet and keep abreast of information.

Pamela was so impressed by my action that I obtain a loan to get information on how to teach the pupils in the village.
There are seminars organised by government for teachers in Oyo state. i really wish all could get connected in my village and in that wise we would planning a free seminar for all and sundry in Ago Are and environ on how to get connected with the internet via mobile networks. I will be glad to see more people using modems and phones to surf the internet from my place of work and i will try all possible best to see how these can work out wellfolafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-13786295154483278562010-04-27T20:10:00.000-07:002010-04-27T20:34:00.145-07:00My baby<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3EvX9jwHaT5zrdIroDUvBPKQXlbOUhE6aQpRD4J-02iJROnUD4cP60ptbPCe6ydkKA10zycqzG7IPQcNH2xW7dpcXTjvv2ZHC-7U98cSpKHqIoeAg5fW7rfv-LKFKC2JdoBNuLedhFFE/s320/herry2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465025995756694802" />

ICT has remouIded the whole world into a small village. Day after days we, see new innovations which was brought about by research works based on empirical data collections and experimentation. Everybody want to know what, why, where and how of everything around them (go to yahoo answer and verify this)and ICT is equally up to the task. People of different cultural background in millions of mile apart could come together as team - via the internet - to embark on a worthwile project that can solve some of the aspirations of humankind. If not for ICT the world Economic situation would have gone awry(economic melt away),if not for technology we would have recorded much death in these days of HIV and other killer diseases, technology has blown a new wave into the world politics, we should have been talking about the third world war by now but thanks to space satellite that monitors everywhere. Now come to think about you you working in a village where there is no internet,Vsat,3G, all you see is trees, wild animals in their habitat, nature itself as I am working. How do you cope? When I was transffered into Ago - Are(one of the rural areas in Oyo State of Nigeria) I thought all; internet business, online research work, surfing, communicating, chatting has come to the end and this continue till I got informed that I can as well use that my 3G phone(P990i) to do all these and can even be use as modem with my computer. Thanks to Ricardo and Pam of http://www.dadamac.net thought. It was then I got relieved and created a blog and continue with all my online research works. Are you coming to Africa and you think much cannot be achieved kindly change you perspective, stop being parochial in your think. That is what ICT is all about. Come around with your phone and much can as well be achieved. We are living in the world of mobility. Come to Africa, my village and view things yourself we are as well using ICT. Unlike when I was in the urban area. Now I eat fresh fruits like guava, orange, pineapple, water melon and what a view. I can eat whatever came to my mind since I leave where foods are manufactured; farm. I am free from artificial products, from junks and cholesterol that could cause cancer. I have free and unrestricted access to animals, birds, insects in their real habitats. All these I had no privilege of seeing when in the city and now I can say all things bright and beautiful for God make them all. I now appreciate nature. Staying in the village is adventorous I must confess, the people are not hostile they are instead accomodating, friendly, wanting to learn from their teacher. Staying with these villagers is lovely I must confess.folafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-54351994040726943932009-10-25T14:40:00.003-07:002009-10-25T14:40:59.447-07:00Working in the rurals has brought me more closer to natureWorking and living in the rurals for the past 5years in no doubt has brought me more closer to nature itself. The government is now making it compulsory for everyone especially teachers to be computer literate. I know in the next few years we will be there.folafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-40888572849361231992009-10-09T00:41:00.001-07:002009-10-09T00:41:26.498-07:00More mobile networkI was posted into Ago-Are in 2005 as a teacher by the government. There were no GSM,CDMA,landlines, internet or any means of communication whatsoever and we have to pay through our nose to make a call using Thuraya. Things have changed drastically over the years we now have 3 mobile company in our village ;GLO,MTN and ZAIN. Communication has been available ever since and we even use their GPRS data bundle to browse right from the village. Though MultilinksTelcoms is about to start operation as well and I think their services is cheaper and affordable compare to GSM because they are on CDMA. My desire is to teach every body around how to use their mobile to connect to the outside world. I would be happy to see that happen in no time.folafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-25361005389375733122009-05-16T13:39:00.001-07:002009-05-16T13:39:17.890-07:00How to connect with ZainGet ur SIM configured by calling the Zain customer care unit 111 and request for GPRS/MMS Configurations and make sure you save the settings sent to you for the OTA(over the air) settings. Contact there website http//www.ng.zain.com for manual configurations or visit one of their shops near you. Zain has different plans for mobile browsing they have pay as you surf which is 15/kilobite and this apply to anyone who want to browse or has finish with his/her data package.
Zain has 3G data plan for a month and it goes for 10 thousand Naira, type as if you want dial new number on phone *141*712*2# and press send key immediately a message welcoming you into the plan will be shown.
Monthly Zain plus of 1G type *141*712*1# and press send to enjoy this data plan.
For Zain daily plan press *141*712*3# and press the send or OK key it goes for 50M per 24hrs and it expires after 24hrs with any Megabite left unused.
Zain has another monthly pack just type *141*712*4# and press the send/OK key. To check your expiry date, used or left data type *141*712*0# and press send/ok key.
I enjoy using Zain for my mobile browsing though it limit the size of to be downloaded or upoaded because it is a limited data plan service and it expires if left unuse till the date given.

Thanks to Ricardo he has been of immense help anytime I encounter problem with my phone and internet he has shown me more easier ways of browsing with my phone using IRD/bluetooth adaptor. Get intouch if you have problem browsing on phone.folafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-60324780741675145342009-05-14T10:40:00.000-07:002009-05-14T10:41:25.807-07:00The names of the three public secondary schools in Ago Are; Baptist Secondary Grammar School (BASEGA),Ansaru 'Deen Secondary School(ADS) and Christ Comprehensive Secondary School. We were able to move round these schools compounds to see things ourselves after we have enquire from the school authority concerning the availability of toilet in these schools. Our findings are contained in the report below.
BASEGA: It was situated at the extreme end of the town along the old road that linked Ago Are with Saki.
The school sign board and the well beside it
The school has about 1500 students, it has a well at the entrance of the school but it does not spring during the dry season( summer) The school has a building that has pits at the extreme of the school (right in the bush). As they appear in the picture
the building with the pits
One of the pits in the building
These pits are used by the entire school teachers inclusive. These pits have deteriorated and many a student would rather prefer to use the bush for the fear of toilet diseases. The offensive odour coming out of the pits were unbearable, the wall is dilapidated, foundation about to sink and these make repair costly and almost impossible. To prevent outbreak of epidemics and in the interest of the students, teachers and the entire community new toilet -possibly water system - is suggested to be built for this school (if it is in the capacity of your noble organization). The school well needed to be serviced.
ADS; The school was situated along Ofiki road(another town in the local government)
Folabisunday standing with ADS principal and a teacher standing by
.It has more students than Baptist Grammar School above. The school has well and this well is as bad as that of BASEGA. The school itself has no toilet whatsoever and the students have no choice than to use the nearby bush anytime they want to use the gents. Many a student has been bitten by snakes in this bush and this has created fear in them. We suggest an erection of toilet facility for this school as well

CHRIST COMPREHENSIVE; The school is a developing school, government has just taken it up from the Christian Association. It was situated along Ibadan road. The school has a structure proposed to be used for the school toilet but due to insufficient fund the project has been left uncompleted. The school only has urinal for the studfolafolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12914125879747855703noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2315693721958906701.post-15414304283117764072009-05-14T09:00:00.000-07:002009-05-14T09:01:59.475-07:00Learning Journeylearning journey
